Cryosurgery

Cryotherapy is a treatment modality that utilizes subzero temperatures to destroy pathological tissue. Pathological tissue includes inflammatory tissue and small sensory nerves that can cause severe pain.

This modality of treatment is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the foot and ankle. Cryotherapy is commonly used in the treatment of painful:

  • Neuromas and Nerve Tumors
  • Nerve Entrapments
  • Skin Lesions and Warts
  • Heel pain and Plantar Fasciitis

Cryotherapy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. This state of the art technology provides pain relief by reducing chronic inflammation and destroying small and microscopic branches of nerves that transmit pain. The nerves will eventually return to function even though there is destruction of nerve tissue. Most importantly, the pain does not typically return.

Dr. Patel is the first and only podiatrist trained and certified for this treatment in the state of Connecticut.
